Children's passports to be abolished on January 1, 2024

From January 1, 2024, children's passports will no longer be issued. Parents who want to travel with their offspring to non-Schengen countries this year (or sometime later) and do not have a passport for their offspring must now pay attention. This is because they now also need a classic passport for their children, i.e. a document like the one their mother and father have.

The reason for this step: children's passports have no electronic security features and are therefore recognized by fewer and fewer countries worldwide.

The waiting time is also longer, often three to six weeks. Anyone who still needs one for their children should therefore think about applying in good time. Anyone who had new children's passports issued last year can still travel with them until they expire.
